Help with my USB on my vaio

Hi guys,

I wonder if you can help me. I have a Vaio FS315S and it has three usb ports on the side (apparantly all usb 2.0), however, I bought a sata->usb adaptor for one of my drives the other day. When I plug it in, it says this device can perform faster. Please plug it in to one of the hi speed ports and then shows 8 free ports.

I'm baffled as to why it's saying there are more and more importantly, why these aren't running at usb 2? I'm running xp SP2.

Our Sony Viao desktop does the same thing on one side! Its one of those all in one malarky things. Theres some sneakily hidden USB2.0 ports on the back, dunno if that helps lol!

Thanks for that. Sadly, there are just the three on the right hand side and are noted as usb 2.0 on all info/manuals/write ups etc. laptop is about 10months old. I'm guessing it must be software related.
