Help with Nero. Won't burn discs

I've successfully burned hundreds of cd/dvd over the years without any major problems with nero, but suddenly i am having problems with both of my dvd writers and 3 different types of media using nero 7 ultra edition

Here's a log of the fault. Can anyone please help as it's driving me nuts

OP: try max burn speed detection for all burns. I've had this very nightmare for absolutely no reason at all.... Nero 7 & 9 refusing to burn discs from a pile of 60 DVD and 40 odd CD blanks, both of which worked perfectly before.

Nero will likely tell you your media's duff, your firmware's out of date and/or you're burning too fast.

Max burn speed detection sorted most of my issues, but I'm still getting a niggle now and then.

Strange thing is, I can use IMGBurn, CDBurnerXPPro and Windows' own burner at full pelt and they all just work. Nero though decided just to stop playing about 2 weeks back, for no reason other than it can.

YMMV though and I echo what Ratbag says!

I don't want to cast aspersions, but any of you chaps using a 'liberated' serial number by any chance?

Looks like you have two drives, third one is a virtual drive? You've tried to burn using another drive to rule out that the drive you normally use isn't playing up?

My Nero has also started playing up. It's been working fine for ages, yet now for some reason it starts throwing up a "Power Calibration Error" whenever I try to burn a DVD. CDs burn just fine, it's just DVDs that have started giving this error.

Tried reinstalling nero and also tried Imgburn, but even that throws up an error. I think it's something to do with the DMA or atapi/ IDE controllers, can't see why because i aint messed with them. I've got another Hdd coming in a few days, so i'll just start with a fresh install of xp/vista

Nah, Nero 7 and Nero 9 both paid for. The only stuff that's not paid for are things like Firefox, Thunderbird etc. Got a nice, legit, fully paid up software library here!

The issues I had with Nero have even resorted to a fairly drawn out back and forth twixt myself and Ahead regarding a refund, as it's fairly apparent that 8 & 9 aren't exactly fit for purpose, but they weaseled out of it thanks to the neatly buried clause in the sales agreement that effectively says "you can have a refund within two weeks of sale, unless of course we send you a key electronically, in which case you can sing for it".... credit card provider's now involved though, so I'll let them fight it out.

Well got it all working now. It was something wrong with some settings inside windows somewhere. After a fresh install of xp, it's all working right out the box again.
