Hello all

I just recieved and built my new machine:

E7200
Antec 300
Corsair VX 450w
Powercolor 4850 HD
Freezer 7 Pro
Samsung f1 320gb

I noticed after the lack of POST that I forgot to plug anything into the small 4 pin power connector on the mobo. So then I plugged in one of the remaining power connecters (half of a set of 8), but before turning on, I had a look at the VX manual which is pretty confusing.

Before I plug anything in and switch on again,my question is as follows:

the VX has two power cables, one which is 24 pin, and another which is 8 pin (split into two 4 pin plugs).

Obviously I should plug in the 24 pin one, but is it correct to plug in half of the 8 pin one (i.e. a 4 pin plug) to the mobo above the CPU?

My mobo is a Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L.

Any help much appreciated!

Sounds correct.. When you say lack of POSt do you mean visually or sound wise? Are you sure you have the case speaker plugged into the speaker pins, else you won't hear the POST bleeps.

The Antec 300 doesn't have a speaker, alas, so I can't really monitor it that way. I will have a read of the various manuals and try and clarify it. Something this important should be crystal clear!!

You only need to plug in half of the 4+4 pin plug, IE, only one of the 4-pin plugs. The 8-pin is only really essential if you're overclocking a quad core or heavily pushing a dual.

Thanks guys, it's now working.

Sorry for the noob-tastic post but the last time I built a machine mobos generally had only one power connecter, so I thought it best to ask!

Any pictures? :)

TBH it's just an Antec 300 so nothing spectacular on the outside! I'mreally pleased with the Freezer Pro, Geil RAM and 4850 though.. they look like they mean business.

XP is firing along at an ubelievable pace; I'm downloading 3dmark06 to stretch the 4850's legs and see what it can do!

Exciting times ahead :) :)
