Hi all,

I'll be recieving a new hard drive tomorrow, as I believe my current one could be on its last legs, however I am unsure of the best way to start using it. I was originally thinking of formatting and reinstalling windows, however I had the idea of using Norton Ghost to clone the current hard drive. Would this be just as stable? and how would I go about doing it?

Also, if I were to use Norton Ghost, how would the best way to format the drive beforehand be? Through disk management or using the XP CD?

Cheers,

Hi, I used Acronis to do simular job and also back up and had no problems with stability.

Not sure about Ghost but Acronis had a built in facility to format a new drive, but windows disk managemt should be fine.

Again with Acronis I selected clone hard disc select the clone, then select destination hard disc, one thing to watch for is you have to select this drive will be a bootable drive (the destination disc) then just carry on, it proberly reboot and then copy the files to your new drive.

Hope the above is ok, I have not used Norton Ghost so I can only go by Acronis, least this give you the idea.

Thanks. I think I will actually use Seagate Diskwizard, especially as both the hard drives are seagates and after reading a bit it seems to do exactly what I want. Anyone used Diskwizard before?
