I am putting together a new build. I bought a Corsair ax750 power supply unit, and the 24 pin mother board cable has 2 connections for connecting to the (power supply). One connection is 18 pin and the second is 10 pin, do I connect both connections to the power supply ?

If anyone has any experience with these psu's and can offer me any advice please let me know.

Thanks
Noel.

Hmm, odd . . . .

What you should have is the main thickest cable which is 24 pin. These usually have a small removeable 4 pin end which is for older system compatibility. Do not detatch. If detatched, reattatch.
There will also be a 4 or an 8 pin block which plugs in close to the CPU.

Of course, I misread . . . .

Its a fully modular PSU, so plug both ends in. Looking at pics of the PSU, yes, you need them both. Should be a 10 pin and a 14 pin. It is done like this so you cannot mismatch.

i think you may have read my question wrong,

i know the 24 pin goes into the motherboard

the other end of the 24 pin cable, for plugging into the (psu) is modular - but has 2 connections 1 is 18 pin the other is 10 pin, do i plug both into psu ?

im confused as the manual says nothing about this, and i do not want to fry my motherboard

I just saw a picture of the psu connectors. Yes, there's an 18 pin socket and a 10 pin socket at the left side of the psu. I'd plug them both in since all power supplies have at least 24 pins connected. Maybe the extra 4 pins takes care of the atx 4 or 8 pin that normally powers the cpu part of the mobo. Seems odd though.

Thanks to everyone

thanks mike that link cleared my confusion, both 18 and 10 pin get connected

happy xmas :)
