Hi all,

A friend of mine has asked me to help him spec a new PC. He doesnt know much about PC's but likes to mainly play games and surf the web. I am a bit out of touch myself with the current components but tried to create a spec of my own (as shown below)

Gigabyte GA_P35C_DS3R (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 & DDR3 Motherboard - £82.24

Crucial Ballistix 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2 PC2-6400C4 800MHz Dual Channel Kit (BL2KIT12864AA804) - £96.34

Antec Sonata III Piano Black Quiet Case - EarthWatts 500W PSU - £71.66

Western Digital Caviar SE16 250GB 2500KS SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM - £42.29

Intel Core 2 Duo E6550 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.33GHz (1333FSB) - Retail - £111.61

Sapphire ATI Radeon X1950 Pro 512MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail - £99.86

Samsung SH-183LBEBN 18x18 DVD±RW Dual Layer Serial ATA Lightscribe ReWriter (Black) - OEM - £19.96

Total : £536.83

What do you guys think of the spec i created? could there be any improvements? have i missed anything? He wants to keep it to a similar price to my spec and also he wont be OC'ing

Many Thanks

I would change the graphics card to a 8800GTS. To fit this into your budget I would change the ram to Geil 2GB PC6400 for £68 and the cpu to a E4400

Thanks i will look into that, can i ask why you think the 8800GTS is worth the £80 over the Radeon?

Right spoke to my friend and came up with this spec that he is pretty happy about: -

Gigabyte GA_P35C_DS3R (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 & DDR3 Motherboard - £82.24

GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC6400C5 800MHz Value DDR2 Dual Channel Kit (GX22GB6400DC) - £68.14

Antec Sonata III Piano Black Quiet Case - EarthWatts 500W PSU - £71.66

Western Digital Caviar SE16 250GB 2500KS SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM - £42.29

Intel Core 2 Duo E6550 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.33GHz (1333FSB) - Retail - £111.61

BFG GeForce 8800 GTS OC 320MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail - £187.99

Samsung SH-183LBEBN 18x18 DVD±RW Dual Layer Serial ATA Lightscribe ReWriter (Black) - OEM - £19.96

Total : £596.76

What do you all think?

Looks like a good spec. You could drop the E6550 to a E6400 or something lower if he wants to save some money he can then upgrade to a nice quad core after a while.
