Ok, im done, I cannot work it out lol.

Previous set up

128gig crucial M4 ssd for OS win 7
250gig storage
1TB storage

Setup now

128gig crucial M4 ssd for OS win 8.1 - installed and OK
250gig - disk killed/wiped, then removed
1TB still there and working
1TB - new - not working
500g - new - Samsung evo 850 - not working

So, the new SSD and HDD show in BIOS. They show in device manager. They don't show in Disk Management.

I've tried uninstalling from device manager and reinstalling them, no good.

I've taken the power and sata cable from the good 1TB and put it on the not working one, still doesn't show. I put the cable from the not working 1TB on the one that is good. That's OK. So rules out a cable/sata port issues.

I've been into cmd as admin and run DISKPART and LIST VOL, they don't show.

Pulling out what little hair I have left, so any help would be much appreciated.

BIOS set to ACHI.

I may have tried more things, but forgot to type them....I really don't think I have bought two dodgy/failed drives

does anything show in disk management?

find it strange that they appear in device manager but not in disk management.

what sata ports are they connected too, ssd on sata 3 and hdd on sata 2?

Nothing shows in disk manager (as they normally would)

Yes, ssds on sata3, hdd on sata 2.

I basically replaced the working 250gig with a 1tb, so should have just shown in disk manager, along with the new Samsung ssd.

I don't know if anything on my OS ssd could still be on there from windows 7. Any drive references or something...?

When I installed windows 8, I put the CD in, let it load, when I came to select where to install it. I deleted the 128gig drive, formatted it, then proceeded to install windows 8.

Maybe this didn't clear it properly? Which is why the 2 drives that are working (these are from the windows 7 install) and the two new ones are on a windows 8 install?

did the ssd come with the USB cable to connect it to a USB port externally like you get with the upgrade kits if so might be worth giving that a try and see if the SSD works that way as should appear as a external hdd

if you formatted the 128GB it wouldn't have anything relating to windows 7 on it anymore so should be fine there.

yeah, might be worth a try

failing that try and load off the windows 8 disk again and see if they appear in there for a option to install on to

if they do you should be able to format them, create a partition and ready to use once back in windows

that's very strange as they are seen by the bios and in device manager.

never heard of this issue as if they are under device manager they should be under disk management.

are you on the latest bios?

I think bios is at latest, I remember doing something to it ages ago.

Yup it's very odd, especially as the 1tb is directly replacing the 250gig. Nothings different lol

Going round brothers soon to test them out.

To add more to this we've just attached the drives to my desktop and they all work perfectly (I'm rodders brother). I've put a new partition on each, fingers crossed that'll work. Strangely the drives had volumes but had not been assigned any drive letters on plugging them into my desktop.

I'm now awaiting the messages full of swearing and cursing that they still won't work in his PC :D Ahhhhhhh, the joys of upgrading!!
