Help with new system

I have £1300 to spend on a new system, I havent done an upgrade for nearly four years so Iam a bit clueless about whats the best options these days. Also I dont need a monitor, mouse or keyboard just the PC itself

I mainly use the PC for playing games and am not that bothered about overclocking ( due to not having a clue how to go about it ) anyways I would appreciate all advice on deciding which components would get me a killer gaming rig.

if you do need a copy of win7, then swap the GTX480 for a GTX470, its then roughly the same price and still sli capable.

Lots of good quality components in Stulid's build

If it's solely for gaming then you could drop to an i5, a P55-UD4 mobo and dual channel RAM, then get Win 7 if you need it and a RV-02 instead of the CM 690 (and maybe a cpu cooler which is quieter than the stock one - tranquillo?). That way you can keep the 480.

what are the better graphics cards these days ? , one of my online buds was singing the praises of the ATI cards.. any truth in this. Also yes I will require WIn 7 as Im still currently using XP :)
 
I think at the Moment the Nvidia 460 Gtx seems to be getting good reviews regards price vs performance, but the 5850 and 5870 are still good cards.

Used the 5850 in crossfire and single and not had any complaints, using the GTX 480 at the moment.
 
the best single gpu card is the GTX480

the GTX460 768mb is now a bang for buck king.

and a GTX470 is better than a 5850.

the minimum fps of these cards are just better, making a smoother gaming experience.

also sli scales much better than crossfire.
