Hi guys. I just purchased my first graphics card, after having a look around in this forum im wondering whether there's some simple things i should do to get this working correctly. I previously used onboard gpu, do i need to uninstall any part of that? Bios settings? I have sound issues now and again and random game crashes on avp. Also the temp is high idle is 50-60 load up to 80 on max game and ati settings. I've used overdrive to crank it up nearly all the way also, although none of these settings altered the temp. Also im using hdmi on 720 but if i use dvi-vga on 1360x768 text and web pages look better its a bit to sharp on hdmi even though i've dropped the sharpness on my tv?? Thanks in advance for any info

Thanks for the quick replies guys, the case is NZXT Hush, i know it's not the coolest case but never had temp issues before even pushing my cpu hard. The mobo is Gigabyte GA-73PVM-S2H GeForce 7100/630I chipset. I've got the latest ati drivers for sure i updated after disc install only 3 days ago or something like that.

The rig as stands is:-
OCZ ModXStream 700w psu
Intel e5200 c3d @4.2
Kingston hyper x ddr2 4 gig @ 870mhz 5-4-4-9-12
Gigabyte GA-73PVM-S2H
NZXT Hush Case

I've got a Asus P5E3 board in waiting for ddr3 ram which is why i brought the gpu then i'll be adding a c2q q9300.

Thanks guys

The cpu or gpu overclocks, the issues the cpu overclocks produce which i've gotten down to just cold boot doesn't go away unless it's practically at stock b'coz the mobo is poor can't change vdim or volt nb. As for gpu clocks i'll see if happens at dif clocks. The tv is a Loewe Xelos, native res is 1366x768. As far as i've tried i can't output that via hdmi which i'd like to stick with b'coz of the colour appearing better with component breakdown also the sound is better quality.
The issue with sound is sometimes like on intro of avp or even the menu of it i get a crackling/popping which occurs also sometimes on hd movies. I've tried altering the bass off the tv and changing the cutoff even at 200hz and it doesn't resolve it, it doesnt suffer from it over vga though with sound via jack to rca

im using the hdmi out on the gpu for sound also, so should i re-install mobo sound drivers?

Not so much got bsod's anymore just game crashes especially on blur which i've tried two copies, only happened once on avp and i think that was due to heat.

I've tried prime 95 ha doesn't like it surprisingly, am i better re-clocking my ram or cpu first? I think the cpu is ok i have had problems with the ram before and had to down clock it because although i can change the timings i can't change vdimm.

Onboard sound and graphics disabled now too.

I think off top of my head vcore is on 1.475, cpuz doesnt read it properly, i'll check shortly when i crank it down which is when i'll try prime again. Is prime more likely to respond to cpu changes over ram changes?

well i had some ram issues a while back and i used memtest (not memtest86) which i believe does check all available ram unless you secify an amount to check which did used to fail but i dropped the frequency and stuck with the tight timings and it passed continuously, thats why i asked b'coz i think the ram is ok now.

I've dropped the cpu to 3.6 and currently prime95 has run for 15 minutes where as previously it wouldn't go past a few seconds so i'll leave it running and see what happens. But i am glad to say that even when i put it to 3.8 (not prime stable) the game blur did stop crashing and i played it for a while last night, including crysis-which although had some rough moments b'coz it was just to much for the cpu it didn't crash just went very jittery. I think the gfx card is fine, i don't know about the sound thing though that bugs me, even did it on a dvd a little last night. Don't know what the problem is there.

As i dropped to 3.6 i dropped vcore to 1.35. Unfortunately this current mobo isn't very good, i can't change nb or fsb voltage but i do have a p5e3 in waiting as previously mentioned just need some ddr3 then i'll be getting a q9300 is the plan which should make things better.

Any ideas on sound via hdmi guys? Also is it possible to get my screens native res to work through hdmi (1366x768), i can do it through dvi-vga.

Thanks for all your help people :)

it won't let me. under hdtv support it only lists 720 and 1080 (readds the edid wrong, my set won't do 1080) and thats it under that catergory. Under desktop properties 1360 x 768 is there but only at 25hz which doesn't display properly??

i hope not to be upgrading gfx again for a good while now, i thought the 5830 was quite good? 2nd hand the Q9300 is half the price of the 9550 and has good clocking capabilities.

Can anyone help as to getting my native res set via hdmi?

thanks nickg, its not that i can't use ccc (or at least i think not lol) just can't seem to get that res via hdmi only dvi-vga. Tried it with vista properties last night and buggered things for a while lol. Although in my trial and error i got 1080i working but most things didn't like it because 30hz was best i could get and i need higher. Plus fps in avp test dropped dramatically as you'd imagine. I'd just be happy with 1366x768 :)

is 10.2 better than 10.5 is it?
ok just tried again with it via hdmi, 1360x768, 30hz is max will let me have, i have to use scaling and fit to screen or maintain aspect ratio but it still doens't fit and overscan/underscan isn't highlighted so can't use it?!

@Nickg. Thanks for the offer of your help, even though we never got round to it lol. I rebuilt my rig just and the resolution and sound issues have now gone :) Maybe a fresh install was the solution. But anyway no sound issue now and i can run 1360x768 at 25hz which displays fine.

Only problem now is clocking the new board it seems a bit of a pig, do anything and it drops the primary hdd??? any ideas anyone? thanks guys
