Knowledgable AV people I hope someone can help please.
I have a Sony KD-49XG9005 TV and I love it. But I recently purchased a Panasonic UB820 4K Blu-ray player. In the UB820 you can pick an option to say what type of TV you have, and that helps with tone mapping and HDR meta data and stuff that I am yet to understand.
So my question; I cannot find online from Sony what peak brightness / nits this TV has. I thought I'd do the smart thing, and email them. After providing answers to a lot of stupid questions (firmware version of the TV, what devices I have attached, etc) I finally had a response to what I thought was a faily simple quesiton.... the answer... "if the information isn't online we cannot disclose this to you."
What! I'm not asking for state secrets or nuclear launch codes here Sony. Urgh.
Anyone have any ideas?
AV Forum state these are what the UB820 settings related to:
Super High Luminance LCD = 1500 nits
Middle or High Luminance LCD = 1000 nits
Oled = 1000 nits
Basic Luminance LCD and Projector = 500 nits
I just have it on the Middle to High Luminance at the moment but the advice from one member is that if your TV goes over one of those values (i.e say the TV did 1,100 nits) that you should choose the higher option (i.e 1,500 nits) on the UB820. So obviously I'm just guessing at the moment.
Thanks.
