I have just finished connecting all my components for my first ever build which consists of the following: -

Akasa Eclipse 62 Case
1 x Intel Quad Core CPU QX6700
1 x Asus P5N32E-SLi Motherboard
1 x XFX GTX8800 Graphics Card
2 x Seagate Barracuda's 7200.10 HDD's
1 x Floppy Drive
1 x Samsung Lightscribe DVD RW
2 x 1GB Stick's of PC6400 Ram
1 x Corsair 620 Watt PSU

My problem is that the fans are extremely loud.

On the case there is an Akasa fan at the rear, 1 on the PSU, 1 on the CPU & 1 on the graphics card which are all functioning but loud when I switch the system on.

The rear Akasa fan is connected to the optional fan 1 port on the motherboard.

There is another fan on the case which is situated at the front near the hard drives which I have connected the the pwr fan port on the motherboard but this doesn't seem to start when the system is switched on.

Am I connecting this to the wrong port?

Also, any suggestions on how I can make this quieter without going down the water cooling route as I am a complete beginner & would be very concerned about leakages.

One more thing. If I wanted to monitor temperatures & control fan speeds what would you recommend?

lol i've got 13 yate loon 120mm fans in my MountainMod UFO case and it's whisper quiet.

get some yate's or similar fans.

Why not just tell the guy to vmod his fans?

@ OP run the fans at 7v or 5v ...do a google.

Or a fan controller

That was going to be my next question.

I would like to monitor the temps in the rig & control the fan speeds.

I have seen the Akasa All-In-One 21 Function Panel or the Akasa AK FC-03 Fan Controller Pro.

What would you recommend?

because he's better off with some decent low rpm mid-range cfm fans than the usual junk that comes with a case, junk fans @ 7v are still junk.

Quite possibly, but it doesn't cost anything to try them at 7v first.:)

I don't have an 8800, but the fan on that is probably one of the loudest things in the system; that was the case with my 7800GT, and many reviews said it was a quiet cooler.

Most Asus boards have a feature called Q-Fan, which will throttle the fan speed back by about 2/3 when not under stress, so check if you have this option in your bios.

With regards to the power fan header, I believe that it is for monitoring the psu's fan speed only (where applicable), and does not provide power to the fan. Try the front fan on a different header.

One way of checking which fan is creating the most noise, is to slow it down by carefully applying pressure to the centre of the fan.
