Help with non booting after update..

Hi all..

Just updated my old dears pc from the Microsoft update site and now it wont boot..

Its running xp home and just gets to the "windows loading screen" then no signal comes up on the monitor and repeats the process...

In an Acer machine (about 3 years old) and ran fine up to now..cant really be bothered to re-install windows on it so was just wondering if anyone can help?.

Firstly, do you get anywhere with the Last Known Good option when you boot it? If not, I'd try safe mode and see if it goes any further. If it allows you to boot in Safe Mode, then enable verbose logging instead of the progress bar during the "Windows loading" screen and try and spot at which part it's falling over.

do you mean shuts down and restarts again?

do you have 2 graphics card in your pc? recently had a computer in my work which had 2 and was working fine up until the employee decided to start install updates himself, then it would boot up half way with one grafphcs card and the other 1/2 with the other.
