My notice period according to my contract is in my offer letter.

I joined my workplace 6 years ago and in the offer letter then notice was set to a month.

I have had 1 promotion since then and for this I got a letter. However I have misplaced that letter although HR may still have a copy. I cannot recall what notice was on that.

Usually for my position, notice is 12 weeks but luckily the contract says whatever is on offer letter.

How can I chance a one month notice? There is a chance HR do not have copy either.

You can always chance a shorter period, though I feel like 1 week would probably raise some eyebrows.

If you said "1 month as per my contract and offer letter", there's a decent chance nobody would bother to check.

Ultimately, the power they have is that if you go beyond what you're contractually obliged to, they can attempt to recover costs from you.

However, that's often really hard to define and I don't think it happens very often. If you are doing something fairly unique and could plausibly be replaced by a contractor on £500 per day, I would be a bit more wary of them coming after me for costs than if I was one of 100 employees doing virtually the same thing.

Yeah I will go for 1 month.

If they turn around and say we have a copy that said you give 2 months notice, guess I can always change my 1 month?

Yeah, no reason in that case you can't say you had no idea and ask them to show you the evidence.

When I resigned in September I stated 1 month unless corrected, turned out it was 3 months but was fine with that as I found my contract shortly after amd comfirmed this.
