Hey,

I have got my new E8400 mobo and RAM running and run into a problem while overclocking... Currently @ 3779Mhz with mem on 1:1.

The problem being I dont actually know what i'm looking for on a C2D OC, i am using the MSI Dual core center app to read temps  (any better suggestions fo rtemp monitoring on E8XX?) lol which is telling me that im 34C idle and i dont know what under load as ORTHOS errors within about 10 seconds. But is perfectly stable in windows?

Also what voltages should i put though? I think i'm around the 1.3V mark, but after reading a fair bit have heard that above that is perhaps dodgy ground.

I have Ballistix Tracer 8500 RAM and have no idea what is a safe speed, as BIOS seems a little confusing... well to be more precise its just changed and im getting used to it.

What temps are good for this chip? i heard up to 65C under load?

Any other hints tips? lol please i really wanna clock this processor and need your expert opinions.

Thing is it will quite happily run Super PI 1M in 12.7 seconds but not run ORTHOS stabily

Please have a look at the pic to see where i'm going wrong.... i dont want to be unknowingly killing my new kit :)

I cant give you an awful lot of help as Im a relatively new OCer :P

But I have managed to get 4Ghz so far, but thats because my RAM doesnt like being overclocked and for some reason it wont do 1:1 .. lol so its at 1:2.4I think at the moment.

My Vcore is around 1.4V, and I too have read about the alleged degradation of it... tbh I have had mine running at this since getting the 8400 when it launched and its been fine.

My temps are around 30 idle and then about 45 when its under load.

TBH I dont see the point in going higher than 4Ghz, as it doesnt really help with the games I play, and I dont really do anything CPU-intensive.

Im sure someone more experienced will be able to help you, I'll keep an eye on this thread too as I would like to see what the E8400 is capable of.
