Hi brainboxes, I wonder if anyone can help with the following puzzle:

A train leaves Port Vai at 10.48am, and travels at 60 km/h to Clapton, 286km away, except when it slows down for 4 minutes to go through a tunnel at 35 km/h. What time to the nearest minute does the train arrive at Clapton?

Also, can anyone identify the following two men?

Dont you first need to work out how far it travels in that 4 minutes ? So thats 4 minutes of 35km/h. Subtract that distance from the total distance to work out how far they have been travelling at 60km/h, which leads to how long they were going at that speed, add back the 4 minutes and theres your answer?

yup that is what needs to be done
 
286 - ((35 / 60) * 4) = 283.666666...
283.6666 in hours and mins = 4 hours and 43.666 mins
that plus the 4 mins = 4 hours and 47.6666 mins = 4 hours and 48 mins to the nearest minute

10:48 + 4:48 = 3:36pm i think!!!
