Hi All,

Recently purchased a new i7 rig and have finsihed building that so sold my old Abit AW9D Mobo, e6600 and 2 gig of DDR2 800MHZ ram to my mate.

Problem is, when trying to install Windows XP on my mates new rig, it boots from CDROM no problem, loads the setup files, but after the 1st reboot when it tries to load from HDD (Which is an WD 120GB SATA II) it gives me the following error:

disk read error occurred press ctrl alt del to restart

As far as I know, the windows version is SP2, but im not 100%.

Tried googling with a wide range of answers  Any ideas anyone?

Thanks in advance.

Hi All,

Thanks for your replies.

Yes it has been formatted and not sure about the version of XP.

I think I know what the problem is. The disk I am using was part of a raid 0 array and when I put just one of the discs in his computer instead of deleteing existing partition information and creating new, I just formatted and off I went.

Thing is, I know when you create a new partition from scratch with XP, it leaves that 8MB space at the end for partition info which it didn't have.

Im hoping this is it, basicallly I will try starting from scratch tonight, deleting exiting partition info first and then creating a new one.

Thnx for your answers, fingers crossed for me plz ;)
