Hey i have built a pc about a month ago and I am unable to get sound from the onboard sound device.

My rig is running a M4A89GTD PRO/USB3 MOBO
ATI Radeon 5770 Vapor-x
Windows 7x64 ultimate and XPx32 SP3 dual boot

I connect the pc to a plasma via HDMI off the Graphics card above and all works well, I get sound through the tv, but if i try and connect speakers/surround sound via phono cable from onboard sound I get nothing. When I try to switch sound devices, it only shows me HDMI audio output.

My surround when set to the TV function only allows audio output from tv programmes, when I change source on plasma to PC it doesnt pick up the HDMI audio connected through the PC, so I need onboard mobo audio to work.

I have installed the drivers directly off the motherboard disc, and its frustrating that it ain't working. I experience this in both OS.

Any help would be appreciated, and feel free to ask if you need any more info. Love these forums, everyone is so helpful.

I tried that already, and they were up-to-date already. The drivers on the cd matched those on the site. However as you say, it is not showing up in device manager so its as if windows is not seeing it in the first place. Do you have any ideas as to what the problem could be? Thank you.

Hey firstly my hdmi is sending audio via the gfx card. I have checked all settings i know of in windows and the component doesnt seem to appear in device manager. i had a look in my bios and i came across a few settings in the bios that i am unsure of:

HD Audio Azakia device [enabled]
front panel type [AC97] the other choice is hd i think
spdif out type [HDMI] the other choice is spdif

Could any of those be my problem?

Also the setup is straight forward enough, I use a hdmi from my PCIe gfx card going to my tv which i get sound/video through. The problem I have is that the onboard sound from the motherboard doesnt work. I need that to work so I can hook up my surround sound to the pc via the auxilliary ports on the surround sound. If you have any mpre questions lemm know.

Thanks!

I know what you mean, I installed the whole mobo cd that came with the rig, and also downloaded the drivers from the website and still no joy atall. I will try thae uninstall when I get home and post my findings later. I just hate it when fiddly things go wrong.
