Hi, I have Outlook 2003 on my main machine, and have installed it on my laptop, and would like to move all my settings and emails to the Outlook 2003 on my laptop. As a start, I copied the data base file I thought held my emails from the "application data, microsoft, outlook" folder in Documents and settings, and put it on my laptop, but when I start Outlook it does not see the emails. I have not tried any settings as yet. What am I doing wrong?
I searched the forum, and it said to look for *.PST files, but it does not show the data base file I moved as a PST file.
I have not done this before, and I am clearly doing something stupid, can someone please help and give me some clear instructions.
Many thanks,
Brian

I am running Windows XP Sp2

Hi yozza, I will try help as much as possible.

Basically this all depends how your current setup is. (POP, IMAP, EXCHANGE).

What you need to do is follow these steps.

1: Open Outlook 2003 On Your PC Where Your Email Is
2: Go To Tools > Options > Mail Setup
3: Press The Buton Called Data Files
4: Click Settings
5: Look For A Filename Box

My *.PST folder is here (C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook\Outlook.pst)

What you need to do is now open up IE or File Explorer and Paste that into the url bar but remove the Outlook.pst on the end)

For Example:
C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook\

That is where mine is stored.

You then press enter and copy all the files you see inside the Outlook Folder.

6: Move them to your new pc and on your new pc go to
7: File > Import & Export > Import from another program or file > Personal PST File (.PST)
8: Then browse to where your PST you imported over to your new PC.

Thats it, thats how you import your mailbox. Goodluck

Many thanks Zen, it worked a treat, I have printed out your reply and it has gone into my file, it is easy when you know how, (I did not transfer all the files, doh).

haha, that just made me laugh. Sometimes I don't no how to do it but I do however know where to find the answer. Good your the very first person to print out my documentation I'm proud and I feel privledged now :o  :D

If you want a better document I can do one. Cheers

EDIT: I was going to start to do a video archive of a lot of problems like this and stick it for people to view. Video is a cool way to learn. That way you learn a lot faster :)
