Help with overclocking a 7970

I've got an XFX 7970 and it overclocks to 1050MHz fine but I cant push it all the way to 1125MHz or I get artifacts and then a lockup. I'm monitoring temps and dont go past 71 on GPU.

Would increasing the voltage help and if so what increments should I raise it?

Also, I've read about flashing the 7970 with a different BIOS. Would I get any benefit from this? I presume that all the 7970's out at the moment are reference cards so BIOS's would be interchangable?

Thanks! :)

Why overclock it?

not like any games challenge it ;)

I think the answer is because there is a slider that says 1.125GHz so I feel the need to take it there :)

Also, there is one area in SWTOR that lags ever so slightly and I'm loathed to reduce the visuals if I can help it.

Download GPU z 5.8, open it and click top left then select get asic quality.

I'm guessing it will return 75% which means it'll need more voltage.

No, the card is clocked via Afterburner - default volts. Gamed ok with it though.

Edit: At stock I get the same reading.

Hi, I also have the xfx 7970 and in order for me to get the 1125 Core and 1575
Memory I had to up the core in Msi AB to 1.175Vcore and 1650 memory voltage (1600) default. The xfx seems to have low vcore set as default. It would be nice to be able to flash a bios with these settings.

I have done quite a lot of messing around and my card will clock happily to 1200mhz using 1.2vcore in AB but in all honesty it's probably not really noticeable. You will need too check that the clocks and voltage settings have been applied using gpuz as I believe this is the only reliable monitor currently. Hope this helps.

How did you enable mem overvolt?
