help with p5n-e sli

hi I'm new here and can someone tell me will the asus p5n-e sli work with its shipped bios with the c2 6420
i mean will it boot up and at worst reckonise it as a 6400

I don't think that it wil have any problem booting but it won't know what to call it ...

Anything after BIOS 0307 will recognise the 6420, but you should upgrade the BIOS to at least 0401 and preferably 0605 as soon as possible.

if you look here and go down just past half way someone (matthew2456) is running the same mobo with a 6420 with an older bios (0202)
so it should be alright i would think?

thanks im just about to set of and drive up there(from birmingham) in 5 minutes

i'm using bios 0307 with my E6420 and not had any problems. the board was bought 2 weeks ago from ocuk and shipped with 0307.
