Hi all, just after a bit of help.

Me and the mrs went looking for a new tv, and found a great 50 inch LED Panasonic model for £1800
This was in the Indian food store.
The model of the tv was TX-l50dt65. We got home and I've been trying to find moreinfo about it, reviews etc but I'm struggling. Their own website hasn't got it shown, and even Panasonics site hasn't got a tv with that model number.
Is it an old model?
Any information would be great.

Thanks. :)

only one I can find is the 55" for £1999 with a 5 year warranty and free bluray player.

food for thought for an extra £200 quid :)

get the feeling the 50 is exclusive to the indian food shops group, their not exactly the best place to buy from. personally i'd be hitting John lewis or Richer sounds instead

Thanks peeps. Yes it was a Google fu low point :D

The 50inch size is perfect for our living room, 55 inch is a bit too much. Plus, the mrs doesn't want 55inch (bigger isn't better after all).
It seems like a lot of the major tv manufacturers are doing less 50inch TVs these days. They seem to all be 46 or 55.

certainly look at tvs from other stores though as that shop certainly isn't the best place to be buying a tv, John lewis as mentioned have a fantastic price matching and warranty policy, as do richer sounds (although for a 5 year warranty you do have to add 10% to the purchase price on the majority of sets(some do come with a free 5 year warranty included or other freebies)

For the amount you will save on the tv, there are some cracking wall mounts out there. I have a Vogels 6345 which held up a 30kg Sharp LCD for about 5 years it is rated much higher too) before I switched to my Panny plasma a few weeks back. Worth spending decent money on if you are going to hang your prized possession from it.

Yeah, the GT50 is an amazing TV. They're only so cheap at the moment because the GT60 has come out (John Lewis aren't selling GT60s) and they're price matching other retailers who are getting shut of stock.

If I wanted to spend 2k on a 50" TV though, I'd be looking at the Panasonic VT range. (TX-P50VT65B). But to be honest, it's not gonna be worth a grand more than an TV that was selling at £1500 less than a year ago and is now £800 is it?

just hung my 27kg lg 50" up with a pixel low profile picture frame bracket, tbh most brackets there days are rated to 50kg or 70"

Great timing this thread, just looking at the GT50 myself, have heard it praised on here before. Quick question, what is the refresh rate? It's hard to tell nowadays as they all seem to use their own different scales unless I'm being daft?! (highly possible)

If you fancy blowing your whole budget check out the Samsung F8500. Very bright for a plasma but still has the very deep blacks.

Thanks for all the input.

I'll have to demo them for myself I think, before I make a decision. That Panasonic looked absolutely fantastic today, and the sound was also fantastic, and the Samsung's seem to be a tad more expensive?

The mrs will also have a say in this, (based on looks as its 'just a TV') :D

The TV will be wall mounted at 12 o'clock, and the patio door is at 9 o'clock, so not exactly DIRECT sunlight, but it could get brighter at certain times.

Get the GT50,

i take it you work during the day? when there is usually more sunlight than the evening when you are at home.

if the sunlight is an issue it can be fixed by bright wall lighting on the same wall as tv and dimming other lights in the room in front of the tv and/or by closing blinds/curtains.

the only problem you may find is the weekends, so i would suggest getting a cantilever wall bracket, where you can pull the tv out from the wall, tilt it up and down and left and right, etc.

so you can angle it away from sunlight if need be.

you could also invest in some BIAS lighting which should also help with the problem, i got a kit on ebay for less than £25. avforums, plasma section has more info.

Sorry to hijack the thread but.. . Quick question for any GT50 owners. Do the online features of the GT50 need a TV aerial to setup? I've got Viera connect on my current panny Led but I can't use it because it needs an aerial for initial setup. I've got no TV licence and don't want to use a chappy aerial just for this.

To the Op, I'd far rather buy a TV in JL. Better warranty and far less irritating staff (normally)
