the parts i already own:

Monitor
Mouse/Keyboard/Speakers
Motherboard: Asus F2A55 (FM2)
4Gb RAM
PSU: SF 550W Green
64Gb SSD and Windows 8.1

What im after is:
CPU
Case
GFX

price wise, cheap as possible that will work ok with minecraft, as all it will be used for really and a bit of youtube/internet

any recommendations?

Thanks in advance

YOUR BASKET
1 x MSI GeForce GT 740 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £69.95
1 x AMD Athlon X4 750K Black Edition 3.40GHz (Socket FM2) Trinity Quad Core Processor (AD750KWOHJBOX) £55.99
1 x Cooler Master N200 NSE-200-KKN1 Midi-Tower - Black £36.95
Total : £175.79 (includes shipping : £10.75).

A SSD can significantly improve world loading speed.

Do you have room on your 64GB SSD for the game?

And consider an aftermarket cooler for overclocking/noise reduction.

thanks guys!

how do the APU's work? i mean the mobo i have has no video output so how would i out the video?

the AMD A10 5800K Black Edition CPU supposed to be good too for minecraft but again, how do i out the video?

the Asus F2A55 is a ATX mobo too, so will need a bigger case

yep this one :)

i used it for mining, now i have some parts spare which i will make up a pc for my son

or would it be better to get a new mobo/apu/case?

Id personally get an Athlon and a GPU as suggested above. The 750 would be my personal choice. It will beat the GPU power of any APU

yes i would go for the Athlon too as the motherboard as no video out put.
i didnt look the mother board up i just though with it been fm2 it would be an APU board.

Just to compare -

APU with new mobo:

YOUR BASKET
1 x AMD A10-5800K Black Edition 3.80GHz (Socket FM2) APU Trinity Quad Core Processor (AD580KWOHJBOX) £83.99
1 x Gigabyte F2A88XM-HD3 AMD A88X (Socket FM2+) DDR3 Micro ATX Motherboard £49.99
1 x Cooler Master N200 NSE-200-KKN1 Midi-Tower - Black £36.95
Total : £183.83 (includes shipping : £10.75).

CPU/GPU:

YOUR BASKET
1 x MSI GeForce GTX 750 OC 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card (N750-1GD5/OC) £79.99
1 x AMD Athlon X4 750K Black Edition 3.40GHz (Socket FM2) Trinity Quad Core Processor (AD750KWOHJBOX) £55.99
1 x Zalman Z1 Midi-Tower USB 3.0 - Black £30.95
Total : £176.53 (includes shipping : £8.00).

This second basket is more powerful. Although with the APU you could Crossfire by adding a compatible GPU, and you get a fresh new mobo.

Alternative GPUs if you wish to stretch for a 2GB card, they'd come in handy if your son starts playing other games:

YOUR BASKET
1 x MSI GeForce GTX 750Ti OC 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card (N750Ti-2GD5/OC) £107.99
1 x PowerColor Radeon R7 265 Dual-X 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £101.99

The R7 265 generally outperforms the 750Ti, except in some games. You could get it plus CPU and case for under £200.

Ok managed to get a r9 270 from a friend so that's sorted.

I've been looking at the haswel CPUs. Great power usage! The gxxx range. They seem cheap and mobos are also cheap!

How do they compare to the Athlon x4 750k/760k?

The 750k and G3320 (or something) for example are very similar CPU's performance wise. I think the Pentium has the single core performance advantage but no by too much atall.

I'd only suggest switch to intel if you aim to work you're way up to the i5's in the future.

I think the 750k is a good shout. :)

When idling both machines will use similar amounts of power, probably similar to a few lightbulbs. At load the difference might be a bit larger, but still less than a tenner a year in electricity. Not worth considering!
