My friend has saved up for a gaming pc, he has £500-£600 and needs a monitor, keyboard and mouse but no OS.. are you magic people able to spec me something that could play bf3 on med settings and modern games? I will be building it for him or even if its a pre built system its ok.

@Idleman - Yeh he needs everything but the OS I have a few keys of windows 7 left so I will give him one so he can build a better system.

@honosuseri That don't look that bad of a build, he wants a normal case so could get a cheaper one as well plus he could always get a i5 and better gfx card etc with that kind of setup.

Would you do that or buy a pre built system specs being

Intel Core i5-2400 3.1GHz CPU
8GB DDR3 Memory
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 550Ti
500GB Hard Drive
DVD Drive
+ Acer S220HQLBrbd 21.5 inch
+ Logitech Ultra Flat Keyboard
+ Logitech G400 Optical Gaming Mouse
Total £598.07

When you buy prebuilt you are getting a 1 year warranty. You have to pay extra to extend it, check the warranties you get when you buy the parts and D.I.Y the build ;)

Yes you could use a cheaper case, I do like the Z9 as it comes with 4 120mm fans, a fan controller with digital temp display and cable management. They also include an extension cable for the aux 8pin power, so you can route it out the way behind the mobo :)

My other concern is i don't know what mobo is supplied with that prebuild you are hinting at. The Z77 we spec'd can't OC that i3 CPU but it does have lucid MVP which uses the IGP to boost the dedicated GPU performance. The i3 is a good bang for buck CPU, usually we recommend the i5K alongside a Z series mobo, as this can be overclocked to get even more power from the CPU. The i5-2400 is sandybridge like the i3, we would look to get him the ivybridge i5 3570K. It uses less power to run, has a better IGP and allows the PCI-Express 3 lane to function on the mobo.
