Hi there Im getting the feeling its time to upgrade but there's a lot of choice out there at the moment, I would be able to go up to a max of £200 (ideally including delivery :p) it seems my mobo is showing its limitations now as it seems with a pci-e soundcard installed (which I have to have as other half uses it for recording) it wont allow my cpu to be overclocked, if I overclock it, it disables the soundcard ive tried everything to get round this but to no avail. And it does show with out that extra 800mhz. current specs are:

Intel C2D E6750 @ stock
Powercolor Radeon 4850 512mb
seagate 500gb 7200rpm hd
corsair 4gb ddr2 800mhz
Arctic Power 700W PSU
Gigabyte p31 ds3l mobo

Would quite happily go to AMD, and am not really bothered about ddr3, and use of the pc is gaming (fps, rts etc etc) and the other usual stuff like music/films etc my gaming Res is 1440x900 so I think my current card is going to be fine for a while yet.

Thanks in advance for any help :)

Im thinking new mobo and a 4890

4890 is around £130 for a powercolor 4890 leaving you with £70 for a mobo and something like this mobo
Asus p5Q pro but its out of stock at the moment.

Then reclock your CPU

hi, thanks for the reply yeah the 4890 is a great card, do you think sticking with a dual s775 cpu is good long term however? I remember when it was easy to choose when everything was way way out of my budget it was what ever I could afford but theres some great stuff out there for very good prices now.

Bit over budget I know
but upgrade you to am3, give you a tricore which can be unlocked to 4 core if your lucky on that board.
Would need new memory though putting it over budget.

AM3 will be fairly future proof for a few years alongside ddr3 and will allow you to drop a quadcore or sexcore processor in down the line
