Hi guys,

I'v recently acquired a trendnet tew-692gr

i am using it as a wireless router, and have the virgin media super hub in modem mode.

I have a connection through wifi, and signal is excellent, but i am getting speeds of 3 or 4 mbps, even if i have the laptop next to the router.

if i connect to the router using an ethernet, i get the required 50mbps

Anyone got any ideas?

Are you connected to the 2.4GHz or 5GHz wireless?

Have you tested with other wireless devices?

What speeds do you get with the superhub wifi?

using 2.4ghz

other devices show similar speeds

superhub wifi gives good speeds, 40 - 50mb

I have updated the firmware on the router, and also the driver for the wireless card on laptop, also ran tcp optimizer

have you knocked the laptop recently, maybe the antenna have become damaged?

You could try having a look at the card and re-seating it.

If other devices are showing similar speeds then it sounds like a problem with the router.

Do you have any devices you can test with for the 5GHz wireless? Have you tried changing the channel of the wireless to see if that helps?

As Orcvader says changing the wifi channel can make a difference. It did for me.

Use a prog like wifiinfoview to see what channels are most occupied. Especially if you live in flats etc. Many routers seem to default to CH6 or CH11.

iv checked a few different channels, still the same, had a go at reseating the wifi card, but it's a bit awkward to get to on a lenovo. To be honest, i'm leaning more towards the router being buggered, i get good speeds with the super hub, as well as a ir-615 d-link
