My Vista 64 system has been running fine for almost a year, and yesterday I noticed that IE7 was randomly launching new tabs to adverts for various stuff. I downloaded the latest Adaware and Spybot S&D, and both found a few items, including some Trojans. According to these products, by system is now clar, but I'm still getting the extra tabs opening in IE7. Can anyone suggest any additional tools to try and remove this? My security for this build have been Avast! for anti-virus, windows firewall, UAC and a hardware firewall. Windows is fully up to date via Windows update.
I did have a look at stuff via autoruns and process explorer, but couldn't see anything odd.
Your help would be much appreciated, I don't fancy a re-build!

Might not be related but I had some popups coming up in FF that S&D/AVG did not find. I found an exe (the name of which I can't remember) in my appdata folder, one of the main ones, got rid of it and everything was fine, I can't for the life of me figure out how it managed to get there.

Hmmm, at work at present, I'll have to check later. I did see a strange entry in autoruns called 'igsy.exe' which is a startup item. Google didn't turn up much, maybe one to eliminate?

OK, gave Superantispyware a go (Malwarebytes seem to be 32 bit Vista only - come on world, catch up). It found a good dozen or so extra threats that the others missed, including 'igsy.exe'. Quarantined this, and (crosses fingers) ie7 is behaving at the moment. Thanks - good suggestion! I should have been more confident and killed the little sod myself when I found it via autoruns!

Now - the question is - for on-going protection, what should I use? I currently have Adaware, Spybot S&D (inc TeaTimer) and now Superantispyware all running their respective monitoring processes - surely overkill? Which one (or two) should I stick with?

Thanks!

BTW - did all this from work via Logmein - love it!
