Help with problem on

I have a renault megane and for about a year mow and again I would here a funny noise from the underside of the car but had it on a ramp and could not find it, over the next few months it has got worse and tonight after more search I have found what is loose. Its the the hoop with the teeth in the picture. Anyone shed any light what it is and why its lose. Is it safe to drive etc. :confused:

should say its just behind the wheel on the ball joint. I'm sure it not a wheel bearing as I had it done not that long ago.

Thats why my ABS Light is always on, should this have not been picked up on the MOT and also it was with renualt 2 weeks ago to go on there computer for another fault and they also checked the brakes and said they where fine :confused:

That ring is what the ABS sensors picks up (though magnetic pulses iirc) when the ring stops spinning it assumes the wheels have locked up and the ABS will kick in. If the ring has moved out of place, the sensor wont be picking it up which is why you have the ABS warning light on.

So its safe to drive then, I just wont have any ABS.

What year megane? Trouble is as the ABS light is on if its got EBD then your brake balance will be all over the shop and greatly reduce the capability of the brakes as it just reverts to a 50/50 split.

Its a 1998 magane 20lt 16v, also what is EBD?

Can I just cut the old one off to stop the noise

, I know I will have no ABS but this is not a major problem till I get it fixed. Also why did this not get picked up by the renualt dealer when they done the check on the breaks or the MOT :mad:
