Hi all,
I'm trying to put together a new rig and would appreciate it if somone
could answer me these questions regarding my "proposed System" outlined below.

Q1. Would my present PSU and GPU be ok?
Q2. Will I see a significant increase in performance, considering I mainly
use my comp. for video encoding, rendering and grahics work.

Present system :

Asus P3V4X
P4 Northwood 2.4
256Meg Samsung Rambus RDRam
OCZ Powerstream 420w
Connect3D ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 128MB DDR TV-Out/DVI (AGP) - Retail
(All purchased from OCUK)

Proposed System:

Asrock 939Dual-SATA2 (Socket 939 & Upgradable to AM2) AGP & PCI-Express Motherboard (MB-002-AK)

AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 3800+ (Socket 939) - Retail (ADA3800BVBOX) (CP-134-AM)

Crucial 1GB DDR PC3200 CAS3 (CT12864Z40B) (MY-030-CR)

Zalman CNPS7700-CU Ultra-Quiet CPU Cooler - Retail (HS-010-ZA)

Thanks to all who reply.

Take care.

Hey! I'm thinking the PSU will be fine although i would get confirmation on that, im OCing my X2 3800 and have loadsa lights and fans going on, with a 450W PSU which is fine and handles it easily, not sure about your OCZ tho, i simply dont know about them. As for the GPU it'll be fine for rendering and encoding, but obviously if you dont upgrade the GPU then you wont find much improvement in those areas, its your call but personally i would :)

Oh and as for Q2. you will most definately find an improvement with a X2 chip over a 2.4penti, but really would look at buying a better GPU... although that may (or may not) lead you to need a higher W PSU, depending on what you upgrade to.

Using that Mobo myself, and the same CPU, it overclocks well if thats what you intend doing, the Gb of RAM will give a decent performance boost all by itself

Hope that helps, if not slap me :D

/\Agreed
Yeah that looks fine to me, the psu should be ok (mine can handle this system overclocked).
You may need to get yourself a 20 - 24 pin power cable adapter, am not familiar with the psu you have.

Conrats on your first post, although I see you've been with us for a while :)
Welcome to the madhouse
