Help With PSU Cables Plugging In To 7970?

Hi,

My 7970 Ghz edition came today and I have fitted it but my PSU cables wont seem to fit in to the GPU. It needs two 8 pin connectors it looks like, like so :

These are the 8 pin connecters I have but they dont seem to match on a couple holes..

And the other is a split 4pin connector that makes an 8 with the same problem, I also have two 6 pin connectors that actually fit in but that's obviously not going to work.

Am i being incredible stupid here or do I need to buy an adapter or something?

I have a XFX 550w PSU by the way.

The one if your hand is a CPU/EPS cable.

What make/model is your PSU?

The solid 8 pin and 4+4 pin are for the motherboard, not graphics card.

You should have one 6+2 pin and one 6pin which you will need to get an adapter for.

Where can I get the adapter from? Are you sure I definitely need an adapter?

Yes you need an adapter, your psu has 1 x 6+2pin and 1 x 6pin pci-e connectors. Did you get one with the graphics card? They usually come with one.

i just got the asus 7970 dc11 top & thats got 2 8 pin connectors, my psu only had 2 6pin plugs so i got 2 6pin to 8pin converters as well, card works like a charm with my enermax 620w psu.

It didn't come with one mate unfortunately. What is the best adapter I can get or do they all do the same job? I have two 6 pin connectors, dot know about 6+2?

There's half a chance that there's an adapter hiding underneath a panel in the GPU box somewhere.

You'd think they'd include one wouldn't you! I'll go in to town and look in a Maplin first before I buy one off line as I want to get it up and running tomorrow, to excited haha. I'll need two of them right? Thanks again Petey, you've been such a great help.

No worries mate You'll only need the one if you already have a 6+2 cable on your psu.

You've got a lovely card there that should serve you well, but I still think you could've saved some cash. But hey, if you're happy, no biggie.

which xfx psu do you have? pretty sure core 550w and pro both have 2 x 6+2 pcie connectors.
