Hey guys, installed a tuniq tower on the q6600 G0 version, im idling temps under 40 degrees for all cores which i think is enough, do you gents?
Troule is theres a massive 5 degree difference between the hottest core and the coolest core that seems to stay the same no matter the load, is this safe?
I don't really want to resit the heat sink, (tuniq tower, actual bitch to get on)
So am i good to go for overclocking or will i pop a core?
Edit: the difference seems to increase propertional to the load, running prime95 at stock and hottest is 54; next is 51; then 49 and last is 47.
Thanks guys.

40c idle is a little on the warm side but a 5c difference between cores is surprisingly common so I wouldn't worry too much about it. Just be carefull not to go over 71c @ load (on the hottest core) and you should be fine.

well the mean for idle is about 35 degrees, and the case is an antec 300 (mini tower), with alll fans set to low so airflow is a little restricted especially with stonking big ati in there :D.
Thanks for the advice mate :)

as w3bbo says 5c is fine if it really bothers you then you can lap the heatsink and CPU, this will void your warrenty on them tho

i lapped the heatsink and CPU, didnt make any diff in the diff between cores, lmao, (prob did a bad job) and with that my idle is 42 degrees, (lowest core 37) @3.6Ghz.

to OP : how hot is your room + i'll assume your running at stock 2.4ghz, in that case your room should be fairly hot for those temps, if your room is nice and cool, either chip is not very flat or you didnt apply your TIM properly.

i wouldnt lap it until you have re-seated it twice,
this will void your warrenty on them tho

Room is very hot, im in the loft with double glazed windows pointing up at an angle (also in south england :P). The windows act like a greenhouse.

I think 35 at stock idle is ok. Plus temperatures seem to have dropped even more today probally due to me stress testing it until about 1am and then letting it cool over night, i was overclocking and at 2.65GHZ idle was under 35 :D.

The cores are also under volted by 0.2 volts due to core temp giving me a wrong reading of VID when i first booted it up (it kept chaning between 1.2625 and 1.1625 volts before settling on 1.2625 with vdroop being 0.1 volts as i set it to 1.1625 and voltage reads 1.0625), it seems to be stable at this undervolting so im running with it and treating it as stock :D.

Anything wrong in the above statements? Im new at this but im taking my sweet time about it and testing everything for 30mins in prime95 and making sure my ram is under stock clock. Just don't want to fry anything, actually having a blast of a time as well!
