Hi all, I have just recently bought a new motherboard the foxconn p35ap-s and I have also bought 2 WD 500gb drives and I wanted to run these 2 in a raid 0 config but when I set this up in the bios raid utility, it seemed to work but when I put my windows CD in to start windows setup I just got a invalid disk message. Any help with this would be appreciated. This is my first time messing with RAID. Cheers.

After you set up the RAID0 array in the RAID BIOS, have you then checked in the BIOS that the actual ICH9R RAID array is the 1st boot device in the Boot Priority...? :)

think so

Hi yeah I think I have done that yeah but what is a ICH9R array. I can't seem to get windows setup started. Thanks.

Does the Windows installer start OK but gives an error when you get to the point of choosing which drive to install to? If so you'll need to give the installer the appropriate drivers for the RAID controller.

If you're installing XP then you need to hit F6 when prompted right at the start of the install then hit S later on when prompted to install more storage controllers. The drivers need to be on a floppy for XP, it can't read from anything else.

Vista is a lot more flexible, at the drive selection screen there's a browse button and it can load drivers from anything readable - CD, HDD, USB keys, flash cards etc.

EDIT: Re-reading your post I think the above is not quite the right answer yet but it will come into play later.

Surely the DVD needs to be first with the array second so that the system boots from the Windows disk to launch the installer.

Sorry, I actually mean't the "Hard Disk Boot priority" rather than the "Boot Device" (the ICH9R as you say must be 2nd, the DVD 1st).....:)

no setup at all

Hi yeah am gettin no windows xp setup at all. There seems to be 2 raid controllers on this motherboard one is for sata and the other is for ide. When booting up both raid controller utilities pop up and you can enter them with a key press to setup a raid but after this with my xp cd in, i tried a vista disc 2 but that never worked either. I have setup the DVD/CD drive as first boot device and I set the raid 0 array as the first device in the hard disk boot priority. Thanks for your time and help.
