Hi I bought the bundle below a couple of years ago and I now want to upgrade the RAM to the max amount this board can handle. Can anyone recommend a suitable upgrade?

*OVERCLOCKED* Intel Core i7 920 D0 Stepping (SLBEJ) 4.00GHz / Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R Intel X58 Motherboard / Patriot Viper 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 Tri-Channel DDR3 Bundle

I assume you mean 24GB then?

What operating system do you have?

Obviously it needs to be 64 bit but with Windows 7 the Home Premium version only supports 16GB so you need the Professional, Enterprise or Ultimate editions.

Sorry, forgot to add that.

I have Windows 7 Professinal X64

If the board supports 24gb then that would be great

You're welcome.

There's a possibility that using all 6 RAM slots may affect any overclock you have on the processor.

That's a bridge you'll have to cross if you come to it.

The Samsung Green would be compatible and it's ultra low profile.

If you bought the Samsung get a "quad channel" 16GB kit and a "dual channel" 8GB kit.

It's still 6 sticks but will save you £6 on buying three 8GB kits.

Ask if they can send you everything from the same batch to avoid any compatibility issues.

The Corsair RAM is low profile.

Much lower than the Patriot Viper if that's the stuff with the fins on top.

What CPU cooler are we talking about?

I have the Fenrir Titan Cooler

The new RAM would have to be low profile as I can see that the cooler overhangs a RAM slot

I'd say it would fit easily.

Ignore the fins on the top of the Patriot RAM and that's about how tall the Corsair XMS3 is.

Is your cooler in that orientation because of the RAM?

Normally you would have the fan blowing front to back instead of bottom to top.

If you're getting low profile RAM you could turn it around if you wish.

Thanks for the info.

I didn't know about the orientation of the cooler. If I remember I think it was because of the overhang over the slots. I'll change that around when I fit the RAM :)

Do you think the Samsung would be a better choice speed/performance wise over the Corsair?

At stock settings the Corsair will be a little better due to the tighter timings.

The Samsung RAM can be overclocked or run with tighter timings but overall this is only going to make a small difference.

i have this board and a 6950 with 24gb of ram its very unstable when the 6950 is plugged in

was fine with a 2 5870s though

I'm running 24GB of the Corsair Vengeance on that board but it's for ESXi and not overclocked.
