Been given a job on a laptop to have a look at, the lad said he had 'forgot the password', and couldn't switch it on.

So yeah, you boot the laptop, and you get the prompt 'Enter HDD user password'

Take the drive out, try and view it as an external connected to your desktop, and you can't, you get the message that the drive is locked.

Is there a way to access the drive? It's Toshiba, the laptop is Acer Aspire. 5738Z.

I know it sounds like a tall tale but its one of the women I work with's son

I just phoned his brother, they told me the password, but they said it was the windows logon password they had forgotten. So now I have to find some software that recovers lost windows passwords in locked drives.

i think what your looking for is ophcrack aslong as the bios is set to boot to cd/dvd or usb first it should work. good luck

Login password for windows are pretty easy to get around, however not as easy to bypass hdd passwords easier just to fit a new hdd. Pretty sure orphcrack doesn't support BIOS cracking etc
