Hi all, I am doing my final major project currently - and I need a bit of help generating a bit of discussion on a facebook page.

Thought this would be an interesting place to call on a number of opinionated people in order to get a few stimulating conversations going.

The page is about religious debate and offers people a 'safe' place to get their voices heard on such topics.

Anyway for all who have a bit of time or are at all interested the page is here!

If you read anything by Dawkins you'd this was'nt the case

Really!!!, Do you know him? I actually do and he is as vociferous in his atheism as a theist is in their religious conviction. Which equates to the same thing.

Never assume someone is speaking from ignorance, I have read Dawkins as well as had several discussions with him in person, and while I agree with his viewpoint in some parts, I do not agree with the way in which he conducts his argument in recent years.

I'd disagree. In generally havea policy of finishing a book once started, but "The God Delusion" met my Dorothy Parker requirement ("This is not a novel to be tossed aside lightly. It should be thrown with great force) within the first couple of chapters. Dawkins, amongst his other objections to religionm, ascribed the thousands of deaths in Northern Ireland to religion. Anyone who knows anything about either Roman Catholicism, the various strains of Protestant faith and the social / political / cultural backdrop of the North knows that this is simply a misrepresentation of the position. The reasons for the conflict go back hundereds of years and have a lot to do with the introduction of people with a completely different culture and tradition into Ireland - a cultural distinction maintained in some form to the present day.

To lay all of this at the door of religion indicates someone who is either intellectually lazy or dishonest, and I've no inclination to waste any more of my time on their work once I've made that detemination..

My un educated view on religion;

In this country 'England' a few hundred years ago, we were all religious, religion ruled everything we done. Why? because we had not advanced in science etc.. Like the 3rd world countries of today 2010.

For example Africa, they are deep into religion as they ar not as advanced as us in science and feel religion is what they have.. they are mad for it, i watched a documentry on it the other week and over 1 million african christians gathered at some place every other Thursday!

Like some parts of the middle East..

It seems to me and it is my own opinion that most if not all countries that have not advanced still use religion like we did 100's of years ago. In time these countries will not be big into religion and be like us now (not that bothered by it) apart from the few thousands that still attend curch every sunday.

Each to their own as long as it does not effect me!
