Help with resolution settings!

Hey.
Just finished my new build.
I have a Samsung LE26R7 tv which i also use as my pc monitor- it has a pc input (Vga) and a hdmi port.
I have a sapphire radeon 4870. Currently from the back of my pc i have the supplied dvi-hdmi adaptor and then im running a hdmi cable from the adaptor to the hdmi port on my televison.

I need help with what resolution to set my screen at, do i set it on control panel or in the ati utility, or both. Games seem to automatically default on 1024x768. Just want to try and get the best out of my card.

ATI utlilty / Control Panel with both set the resolution that Windows uses. Any games won't auto-detect, you'll need to change them manually (they usually do start at a pretty low resolution by default)

So should i be using the optimum resolution for my monitor i think this is 1360x768. For games should i set this the same?

Yah you should ideally be setting it to the TVs native resolution to get the clearest image
