This is a link to page of card in question
http://www.lsi.com/products/raid-controllers/pages/megaraid-sas-9240-8i.aspx#tab/tab3
Preparing to upgrade my htpc/server system and am trying out the above card
Card shows a 4TB sata hdd at bios but one it boots into windows the card has an error and won`t start(with a smaller hdd 1.5TB it starts fine)

Would I be correct in assuming that this card won`t accept hdds of 4TB in size :(

Is the firmware up to date?
Yup updated that today when i installed the card

Did not find that when i searched earlier. Thanks
Looks like most of my hdds are not compatible :(
Most are WD reds,gutted
Will have to try them all one at a time to see which ones work, not hopeful though as most are intelipower 5900 rpm type and that list is mostly 7200 rpm

I've got an LSI 9650se-12ml, and it supports my 5TB drives, so I doubt your one that has 6GB/s ports on it would top out at 4TB. I couldn't actually get any drives to show up at all initially, which lead me to think the card was faulty, but I had a play with its settings (a prompt comes up to access its settings before boot).

I'm not experienced with this sort of hardware, but I'm assuming that drives won't show up under normal circumstances until you build a RAID array with them. So in the settings I enabled a mode called "passthrough", after which the drives connected to the card showed up in Windows.

i think most raid cards have a compatibility chart, though just because its not on there doesn't mean it wont work, it may mean they've never tested it, though in this case you mite be unlucky.

Yeah would have expected 4TB WD reds to work
Anyway bought a 4 port sata card to try,if it works will get another to get 8 ports and put this card on the MM i think
Too much faffing about for me
