help with setting up 5.1 system via onboard sound

so I have a 5.1 sound system going through through my on-board sound (Asrock Z77 Extreme 4) via the optical out (S/PDIF) but I cant seem to get full 5.1. sound. only the front stereo speakers work. any tips on how to sort it?

I have a set of logitech z 5500's which can decode both DD and DTS, i think the simplest way would be getting the 3 way audio cable

actually what i just bought was a Mini Optical/TOSLINK adapter, this will solve problem i believe?

right creative are ****ing me off. so on the back of the pod there are 3 ports black green and yellow like here.

is there a cable that connects from those three to my audio in on my pc? or am just loosing th e plot. I have a sound blaster x-.fi audigy pro lying around as well if that who kd make things easier
