Hi

As some you may have seen in other posts i have just got myself a new AM200 & WRT54GL so basically what i want to know is what is the best way to plug this lot in.

should i connect every think up strait way or modem first and configure that then plug the router in and do a firmware upgrade to tomato then plug in printer xbox 360 and so on ?

also i see that there is a setup cd for the router so should i use this before i install tomato or will it work after i have done the firmware upgrade to tomato ?

oh and i will be connecting a 5 port switch as well also a Linksys (EZXS55W)

My ISP is Be*

Plug the modem in, set that up, Put Tomato on the router, then connect the two. Once you can ping from the router to a web page connect up the end devices.
With internetworking it's usually best to start from the WAN/core down to the Access layer

OK so its not gone to plan, i am not sure what setting to put the on modem as some of them i haven't seen while using the netgear.

can someone please tell me what i should have setup for be* ISP and what settings i should have for connecting it to the WRT54GL

from what i can see on the Be* forum be* do not use PPPoA and PPPoE which is what i was trying to use Oops

will try again tomorrow

I have the Vigor100 and WRT54GL and used to be on Be* the Vigor 100 is a little different but not that much I guess.

Best bet, post a screenshot of the AM200, it's always easier to see in a screenshot.

If you searched you would find the set up many times.

But set the AM200 IP 192.168.1.1

WRT54G IP 192.168.2.1

See if that sorts you out.

thanks for those links guy but i had seen them before and was ready to use the script but at the moment i can't even get on the net when i plug into the router.

from the modem i can connect ok but if i then plug from the modem to the router i get nothing windows tells me the network diagnostics pinged the remote host but did not receive a response, so i must have something setup wrong.

as you can tell i am not to good at this network lark this modem/router is somethings else when you have been using a netgear router.

if someone would please tell me where i am going wrong.

well i don't know what i have done but its working now with the router, seemed to work after i used the script which lets me get onto the router and modem web UI
