I've never used Sky as an ISP before, so after a bit of advice.

Im aware that Sky's T&C's dictate you should only use their own supplied router, and that the user/pass is locked down.

We need to use a much better router in the house (which is large) that will allow many devices connected over Wi-Fi, and thats dual band N supported. The Sky one is pants and just keeps dropping wifi connection when lots of devices are connected. Also the signal strength is not adaquate.

If I were to disable DHCP and DNS on the Sky router and connect it to a much better router, will the new router look after QoS and routing tables? I just want the Sky router to act as a pure modem and not perform any other task, passing all the complex stuff to a much better device.

I dont want to completly swap out the Sky router. Its a house share so if I ever move out the Sky router needs to be in use incase they need to ring Sky for any tech help.

I could use an wireless AP, but the issue here is that the router is struggling with the number of devices connected. We all have various gadgets, so up to 15 wifi devices could be used simultaniously, excluding the NAS!

Provided the Sky router is acting as a modem, and I'm not sure which settings will make that happen, it should be fine.

I have mine working as Modem, Router & DHCP but have Wifi assigned to three other routers acting as wireless access points which covers my 3 storey house and my shed out the back. I just switch on the access points as required.
