Hello folks,
I am looking to do my first build - want something nice but not too spendy. Performance not really an issue as I don't game - will be used mostly for photo and the odd bit of home video editing and programming. Maybe use it for watching videos on a projector too.

I really want it to be a quiet as poss also.

Will probably dual boot ubuntu / xp.
My specs so far are below. One thing I don't think I have is a firewire port for plugging old video cam into - maybe a diff mobo would have one?

Also, what do yo need for a remote? Probably won't get one now, but might want one later if I really start using it as a htpc.

Antec Fusion HTPC Case - 430HE Watt PSU£112.79
Abit Fatal1ty F-I90HD ATI Micro ATX (£72.84)
Intel Core 2 Duo E2140
Samsung SH-183LBEBN 18x18 DVD±RW Dual Layer Serial ATA Lightscribe ReWriter (Black) £16.99
Hitachi Deskstar T7K500 NCQ 400GB SATA-II 16MB (£58.74)
GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC6400C4 800MHz (£58.74)

Budget limited by the fact that the wife has access to sharp kitchen knives and I want to keep my balls.

Sorry for the long post and thanks for helping,
ed

You don't need 2GB. 1GB is plenty.
Change the Hitachi for Samsung
Change the Fusion for NSK2400, about £45 cheaper
You need IR remote/receiver, £24 for MS one.
