Hi guys,

I seem to have got some spyware called '888bar' which is a toolbar for windows explorer and ie. I can't get rid of it. Spyware S&D found it and deleted it but it still came back. NOD32 and Adaware didn't find it. I have no idea what it does but occasionally a command line box comes up and it looks like it's executing something and then it closes after about a half second. This has happened over the past couple of days.

Also, something which i think has been caused by it is that around every 10 seconds the 'System' process seems to have a burst in cpu useage to around 40%. This means that every 10 seconds in games i get a large fps drop (~100fps to ~20fps) making the game nearly unplayable. I've taken a screenshot of task manager showing the cpu spikes and the prcess causing it:

(ignore the user name...long story)

I also ran hijackthis which picked up the 888bar. Here's the log file:

Any help is much appreciated. Thanks :)

Have you tried unticking the O3 - Toolbar: 888Bar - {C004DEC2-2623-438e-9CA2-C9043AB28508} - C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\{3C248~1\888Bar.dll Entry?

I'd boot into safe mode, disconnect the net and then ran hijackthis to remove it.

Cheers for that. I'd never used hijackthis before so didn't know it could get rid of it.

But i still have the problem with the cpu useage spikes which seems to be unrelated to the spyware. I may end up re-installing windows as i'm having too much trouble with this current install :(
