Hi there, Im hoping you fine fellows could possibly tell me if my current aging motherboard (Asus P7P55D-E) would be compatible with a Samsung 850 EVO SSD, I have googled this but there seems to be some confusion as some sources say it cant and others say it can but with limited performance, regards.

is it this mobo below?

https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/P7P55DE/overview/

it has 2 x Marvell sata 6 ports, with these controllers they are not able to reach the full speed of a SSD

i have a old x58 board and use my sata 2 ports and still noticed a big difference over a HDD.

you may find that the controller is better on your board than mine but something to keep in mind

currently on sata 2 ports i get a read and write of 270mb but will change when i upgrade at some point :)

when using my marvell controller the max i got was 400mb read and 250mb write, sata 2 ports where more reliable as using intel controller so stuck with them

Yes thats the motherboard, I'm in the prcoess of updating my comp atm and figured that I would notice the difference more getting a ssd first than I would upgrading from my i5 760. Thanks for the replies guys.
