Hi, first post, so be gentle!

Just installed a Arctic Freezer 7 Pro Rev 2 tonight with the intention of doing a mild overclock on my i7 920, still at default of 2.67ghz.
Removed the stock cooler, cleaned heatsink with Akasa cleaner and seated the new cooler. I didn't use thermal paste as it comes pre-applied.

Idle temps below.

Realtemp was showing my temps shoot up to about 85-90c when i started a game in BlackOps and prime is pushing it right up to upper 90's in a matter of seconds.
Ambient room temp is about 20c at the mo.

I'm thinking i need to clean off the heatsink and cooler and reseat the cooler with some thermal paste applied but not sure, any pointers much appreciated?

Hello and welcome to the forums :)

Sound like the cooler is not correctly seated, double all the pins are on the board correctly as the push pins can be a pain to fit.

I do like the AC7 but I wonder if it may struggle with the i7.

Hi guys, thanks for the responses.
Yeah sry, meant the CPU, nub that i am!

Checked all the pins and all seem firm and secure enough.

If i reseat it do i need to clean everything down - heatsink+CPU?

RJC what do you recommend for an i7 cooler?

So i've removed the AC7, cleaned CPU and heatsink, applied a pea sized amount of paste and it's now idling in the mid 60's. Wtf?
Don't know what to do next apart from ditching the cooler.

Motherboard is a P6T deluxe - switched on qcontrol and upped the setting to turbo - which has done sod all.

I'm a bit stuck and any help would be lovely.

It was a small pea. :D
Still a bit lost as to why my temps are remaining quite high though, even when idling.
I start prime95 and straight away it's crept up to the high 80's.
