Aloha!

I'm heading to Belfast on the 6th May for a comedy gig.

I've been a few times but always with people who know the area quite well. This time, not so much.

I know there is a maps/GPS jobbie on the N96 and was wondering how I would go about setting it up to find my way about?

My recollection of directions and street names is poor but I can read a map well. :p

I believe you should be able to install google maps on it. just browse to m.google.com. google maps is much nicer to use than nokia maps.

Only in as much as what your carrier charges you to download the maps on the fly but it shouldn't be a HUGE amount.

Nokia maps does have the benefit of having maps preloaded, but isn't as comprehensive as google maps as far as area info, attractions go. Google Nokia maploader, get maps (and the relevant map pack, all handled within the maploader GUI) loaded onto your phone and see if it does what you need it to. Compare it to google maps too and make your own decision :)

Thanks for this, didn't realise that they did a mobile version. I must admit the Nokia maps is a bit horrid and the cost is outrageous, especially as you have to pay for the phone in the first place!

Edit: Oh god. The diffence between the two is massive. Google maps is so much quicker and nicer to use. The fact that it's free is just unbelievable, I think I would pay for this. Testing it to get directions to a friends uni was done within seconds. Really can't believe how fast it is with searching the landscape and loading new areas.

Thank you for pointing this out!

Just had a play with Nokia maps and it seemed cool.

It used my WiFi to find the map but obviously I can't do that when I'll actually need it.

Will have a look at Google maps now.

You can't cache the maps for google maps but google maps will only download what it needs to show on screen. It also shows you the data usage for each session so you can keep an eye on what it's downloading but it doesn't seem to download a huge amount.

It is a fantastic application which is always useful to have.
