Im considering getting this cooler for my new PC but from looking at it, it does not look like any other coolers ive seen.
Will I have to buy fans for it or any other additional hardware because currently it does look like a massive heat sink and not something that cools down the CPU.

I do have a lack of knowledge when it comes to coolers so an "explanation" of this cooler would be great.

In the description on the OCUK site it says "Either 120mm or 140mm can be installed on the Genesis for a maximum installation of 3 fans of your choice!"

From this one can assume that you do indeed need to buy your own fans to go with it. Considering the Heatsink comes in at £60, that's going to cost quite a lot.

It also depends on what socket you're running. The cooler comes with the standard socket brackets EXCEPT Intel 2011. So if you're running SandyBridge-E or any other 2011 chip, you will need to order the retaining bracket seperately.

If you're looking for a big cooler, i'd recommend
Socket LGA1366/LGA1156/LGA1155/LGA775/AM2/AM2 Version:

Socket 2011 Version:

Or if you're stuck for vertical space
Socket LGA1366/LGA1156/LGA1155/LGA775/AM2/AM2 Version:

The cooler does not include fans. If you want something a bit different to regular dual radiator heatsinks, then the Genesis isn't a bad choice. It performs well but not as well as the above mentioned coolers.

Review here with all the explanations you need: http://www.vortez.net/articles_pages/prolimatech_genesis_cpu_cooler_review,1.html

If you want the best performance, then the Phanteks, Thermalright Silver Arrow, Alpenfohn K2 or the Noctua are better.

So if I buy this cooler using the "system configurator" on the Overclocker website, will I still not get any fans with it?

And to answer the previous question, the case will be the Thermaltake Level 10 Gt case , the RAM will be the Crucial Ballistix Elite 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 1866MHz CAS9 Memory Kit and the Motherboard will be the Asus P8Z77-V PRO Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard .

Thanks. Now check the specifications and tell me how tall the memory is and what the motherboard case clearance is and I can tell you what coolers will fit.
