So my housemate had her boyfriend step on her screen, causing several thousand pixels from the top to slowly migrate downward, turning black, like a sickness lol. Still works tho.

So i've found you can get replacement screens for around £80

Its a Satellite U400 PSU40E

I downloaded the manual but it's only the usual one with nothing in-depth about how to take the notebook apart to access the screen.

A shop will charge circa £200 for the same thing.

Anyone done this or anyone know where I can find details to do so?

What connectors are there, data and cold cathode power?

Saving grace is two screws are visible on the lower lid frame and I assume the two others are under the two round rubber closure-shock absorbers.

Thanks to anyone who can help

Take all the screws out from around the lcd bezel, usually 2 at the bottom 2 at the top, ease the bezel off, remove the bezel by pulling it towards you going around starting from the top, then down the sides. Remove screws from the sides of the lcd, lean it forward, remove the data cable and inverter connection. It may be taped to the back of the lcd so ease it free, then just replace and reassemble.

cheers I'm sure I could do that. mainly concerned if I have to take lots of the chassis apart like some laptops. guess only way to find out is to do an exploratory procedure on the thing...
