Hi all,

Finally got around to getting myself an SSD, and Im going to use it as a boot drive (fresh install of W8.1) and run a few games from it (i.e. Some of the longer loading Steam titles and BF4).

I am wondering if it is possible to carry on using the programs I currently have installed on my 500GB Barracuda (with W7 installed on that drive) without reinstalling them? I suppose what I am asking is if it is possible to remove W7 from that drive but still have and use the programs that are on the same drive.

On a similar note, is there a way of getting Origin and Steam games onto the SSD without re-downloading?

Apologies if this is a bit of a silly question, software has never been my strongpoint

Thanks guys,
Cookeh

You'll most likely need to reinstall to avoid any issues, sadly most windows applications aren't self contained and require registry entries etc. Don't get me wrong a few might work, but it's not worth the hassle.

When installing Windows on the SSD ensure no other HDDs are connected to avoid any problems though..

Steam games should just work, move the steam folder to wherever you want and run steam, it'll do some magic and pick up all your games. Origin - not too sure about that one, I believe it could be roughly the same.

Most other applications, as has been said above, will need re-installing to work properly though.

Origin has a seperate folder for it's games under the "programs files" dir, called "origin games". You just need to back that up and when you reinstall origin, you just need to put it back in it's place.
