After a bit of advice. For a while now I have been gaming in the front room on a laptop (my office got turned into a nursery for the little one!). I have a clevo P170em (i7 3610 / 7970m / 16GB), my old desktop got turned into a media centre pc to go under the Tv.

I have recently moved house and once again have an office for gaming in. Ideally I want to upgrade my old pc and keep the laptop for when I do need the portability and for a bit of lan action when friends come over.
Laptop spec – Clevo P170em i73610 / 7970m / 16GB / SSD
Desktop Spec – Asus P55D / i5-750 / GTX 460 1GB / 8GB

My questions are
1) Is there any point in upgrading my old pc? Will a new GPU get bottlenecked by my now aging i5 750? Or will it have a bit more life left in it ? Was thinking of one of the many deals out there for an nvidia 670 or 760, along with an SSD.
2) Would an i5 750 with a 670 in it be any faster than my laptop or not ?
3) OR am I flogging a dead horse and should just sell my laptop (any ideas roughly what it is worth?), and use that money to buy a completely new desktop pc?

I am trying to keep spending as low as possible, around £300 would get a new GPU and SSD and that is the upper end of my budget without selling the laptop (which I don’t really want to do unless my old pc isn’t worth upgrading).
Any advice appreciated.
