help with upgrading

Hi my son has asked me to ask on here about upgrading his system at the moment he has a Q6600 @ 3.0 with 4Gb ddr2 ballistix, a 6780 1gb gpu and a IP35 pro motherboard and a 500w psu,also 1 hard drive for system and any games he plays as all his files and media are on the server.

At the moment he would like to upgrade the board and cpu i will give him ram to get started and reuse the gpu and use the hard drive but upgrade to ssd later on when this lot are paid for.

So on a low budget what can he expect to be able to buy in the next few weeks cpu, motherboard.

what sort of budget are you looking at ?

over the next couple of weeks depends on the "weekly" deals that ocuk do.
 
Really looking for someone to turn round and say you should go for a such and such type of motherboard and CPU then he can start looking at any deals budget as cheap as possible he should have around £200 but would like to keep some towards a SSD later on

problem you have is the overclockable intel chips are around the £160-180 mark on there own.

there are 2 options, to come within budget and then to be overclockable (over budget):
