Hi, So I have a Lenevo Y720 gaming pc. I am wanting to upgrade it further but I am struggling with cpu and hard drive and solid state drive compatibility. I have upgraded the ram from 8 to 16gb so for now I’m happy with that. Please could anybody help assist me on potential upgrades.
**No Competitors **

This is what it has I’m not sure on anything else. Thanks so much.

The most you could upgrade your cpu to is a 7700k which only has 4 more threads not core a and a higher clock speed than your cpu. You would have to way up the cost bit of would give you a small performance boost.

The ssd will be the biggest increase in performance in your system as a mechanical hard drive is the biggest bottle neck in any system.

Even used you would be looking at 160+ just for a 7700 non K which is 4core 8 thread and bear in mind that a brand new 10400F which is 6 core 12 threads can be picked up for £140 so no real point spending £160+ on a used 4 year old CPU.

Since Lenovo use custom parts there is no guarentee that a new motherboard would fit the case to enable the use of a CPU like a 10400F.

Imo the SSD is the only upgrade worth making now since you already did the ram, save your cash and put towards a modern system.
